For Friday lunch meetings, cancellations must be received by 5 p.m. on the preceeding Monday to avoid being billed. For other special events, cancellations must be received at least four days prior to the event to avoid billing.

From disease outbreaks to the opioid epidemic, public health professionals are no strangers to communicating about crises. What are the crisis communication principles that public health communicators use, and how can they be used in crises that your organization may encounter? This talk will outline best practices and use lots of examples from right here in Arkansas.

Meg Mirivel has served as the Public Information Director for the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) since October 2018 and has worked in the ADH Office of Health Communications for over five years. Meg directs the public information for the Department, including media relations, social media, and web development, to give Arkansans the information they need to protect and improve their health. She is the ADH’s key point of contact for media, fielding inquiries from local, state, and national media on a daily basis. Meg works with subject matter experts in the agency to provide interviews, data, and information to television, newspaper, and radio reporters. She also manages news releases and press conferences for the ADH, and delivers media and crisis communication training for ADH employees and partners. Meg holds a master’s degree in Applied Communication from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
